Turkey Paravolley Men's Sitting Volleyball European Championship Started at MAKÜ

The Sitting Volleyball Men's European Championship B Category matches started at the Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Sports Hall. Turkey began with a victory by defeating Georgia 3-0 in its first match. The tournaments, which started on November 22, will conclude with the final matches on November 24.

 

In addition to Turkey, the national teams of Czechia, Georgia, Lithuania, France, the Netherlands, and Great Britain are participating in the championship. The top three teams will earn the right to directly participate in the A Category European Championship to be held in Hungary in 2025.

 

The National Team Made a Difference in Its First Match

 

The Turkish National Team defeated Georgia with a clear score of 3-0 on the first day of the tournament. In the match, which attracted great interest from sports fans in Burdur, the stands were filled with supporters who enthusiastically supported the national team with Turkish flags in their hands.

 

Speaking at the end of the match, Turkey National Team Head Coach Aziz Hopyar emphasized that they came to the tournament ambitiously: “We came here as champions, and we want to participate in the European Championship as champions again. We thank everyone who supported us. Winning on the first day was very enjoyable and proud for us.”

 

The Tournament Opening Ceremony Was Held

 

The opening of the 2024 Volleyball Men's European Championship B Category Tournament was held. Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar and his team attended the opening held at the MAKÜ Sports Hall.

 

The opening started with a performance by the European Champion MAKÜ Folk Dance Team. In the opening program of the tournament, hosted by MAKÜ with the support of the Turkish Volleyball Federation, Nilüfer Shimonsky, the External Relations Coordinator on behalf of the Federation, made a speech highlighting the unifying power of sports. She stated that the top three teams would qualify to compete in the A category of the European Championship to be held in Hungary next year.

 

Paravolley Europe President Branko Mihorko, who spoke later, also mentioned that matches have been held in Turkey for the 4th time in the last 4 years and for the first time under the presidency of the Federation. He wished success to the teams.

After the opening ceremony, the matches continued from where they left off.
