An important success was achieved by a student from Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University at a significant event organized in Istanbul.
At the Sambo Turkey Championship for Juniors, Youth, and Seniors held at the Istanbul Ata Sports Center between April 3-5, 2026, Halil Cihat Balcı, a 4th-year student of the Visual Communication Design Department at Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) Faculty of Arts and Design, became the third in Turkey in the seniors 98-kilogram combat category.
With this achievement, Balcı not only made his university proud but also earned the right to join the national team for the European and World Championships, which is granted to athletes who rank in the top three.
The successful athlete was presented with a medal and a certificate of achievement by the General Coordinator of the Sambo Branch, Kadir Yusufoğlu.
