Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) commemorated the anniversary of the acceptance of the National Anthem on March 12 and Mehmet Akif Ersoy with a special event. A music and dance-themed theatrical folk dance performance prepared by the university's Turkish Music State Conservatory academics and students met with art lovers.

The performance titled Korkma brought to the stage the period when Mehmet Akif Ersoy penned the National Anthem. In the show, which conveyed the atmosphere of the National Struggle years with a narrative-centered approach, Mehmet Akif's inner world was interpreted through music, body language, and movement. The performance, which processed intense emotions, received prolonged applause from the audience.

The program began with a recital prepared from the works of Mehmet Akif Ersoy by an orchestra consisting of MAKÜ Turkish Music State Conservatory academics and students.

Speaking before the show, Zeynel Turan, a faculty member of the Turkish Music Department at MAKÜ Turkish Music State Conservatory, who undertook the scriptwriting and choreography of the work, said that the struggle for existence of a nation would be told on stage. Turan stated that the work focused on the challenging period when the National Anthem was written and aimed to interpret Mehmet Akif Ersoy's emotional world with a contemporary stage language.

Turan, who stated that the work presented a narrative more through body language and dance than words, expressed that the show was designed as the voice of Mehmet Akif Ersoy. In the entirely original performance; starting from the spirit of Çanakkale, the rising resistance movement in Anatolia, the Kuvâ-yı Milliye struggle, and the independence process achieved with the establishment of a regular army were brought to the stage with a symbolic narrative.

It was noted that in the show, which emerged after approximately six months of preparation, the decor, costumes, and accessories were also prepared by the students. Turan also said that they staged the work titled "Korkma" for the third time and planned to go on a Turkey tour in the upcoming period.

The show was watched by Tülay Baydar Bilgihan, MAKÜ Rector Hüseyin Dalgar, deputy mayor Hülya Eraslan, protocol members, academics, students, and many art lovers from Burdur.

At the end of the program, certificates of appreciation were presented to the show team by Governor Tülay Baydar Bilgihan, Rector Hüseyin Dalgar, and Deputy Mayor Hülya Eraslan.
