An orientation program was organized for the first students of MAKÜ Faculty of Medicine

In the orientation program organized for the first students of the faculty, MAKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar and Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Cem Çetin met with the students. The program addressed the faculty's educational approach, specialization goals, and the fundamental values of the medical profession.

The first lesson of the faculty was given by Prof. Dr. S. Serhat Gürpınar. In the lecture titled “First Step to Medicine: Professional Ethics and Professionalism,” the scientific and humanitarian responsibilities of medicine and the ethical principles that guide professional life were discussed.

Goal of specialization in sports medicine

Rector Dalgar stated in his speech during the program that the Faculty of Medicine has been a long-awaited investment for Burdur.

Expressing that they aim to combine the university's strong areas with medical education, Rector Dalgar said they want to create a faculty that stands out nationally and internationally in the fields of sports medicine, sports injuries, and athlete performance analysis.

Pointing out that artificial intelligence, genetic studies, and personalized medicine applications have transformed the health field, Rector Dalgar emphasized that despite technological advancements, the importance of the human bond between the doctor and the patient will be preserved.

Rector Dalgar advised students to take advantage of the university's academic and social opportunities, noting that applications such as micro-competency programs, social diplomas, and career schools offered on the MAKÜ Plus platform would contribute to their multifaceted development.

“Doctors who research, question, and adopt continuous learning as a principle will be trained”

Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Cem Çetin also stated that the first student group holds a special place in the institutional history of the faculty, saying, “You will be the first students of this faculty, the first excitement, and the future's first graduates.”

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Çetin emphasized that medicine is not just a profession, but a way of life that combines scientific knowledge with love for humanity, discipline with empathy.

Dean Çetin reported that an educational program integrating basic medical sciences with clinical practices and focusing on professional competencies has been prepared, stating that they aim to train doctors who research, question, think critically, and adopt continuous learning as a principle.

Dean Çetin advised students to adhere to the principles of non-maleficence, being beneficial, respecting patient autonomy, and justice throughout their professional lives.

As part of the program, stethoscopes were gifted to the first students of the faculty.
