Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) Theater Community held a meaningful poetry recital at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Conference Hall on the occasion of Mehmet Âkif Ersoy Week. In addition to academic and administrative staff, a large number of students attended the program.

The great thinker Mehmet Âkif Ersoy, who guided the nation's struggle for independence with his pen and kept morality, faith, and love of country alive for generations with his poems, was commemorated with poems selected from Safahat. The recital began with a one-minute moment of silence in memory of all martyrs, especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades. Then, the National Anthem was read with enthusiasm and pride.

Within the scope of the program, following the recitation of the National Anthem poem, poems selected from Mehmet Âkif Ersoy's work Safahat were brought to the stage by the theater community members. In the recital, the poems “Bana Sor Sevgili Karî”, “Bayram”, “Seyfi Baba”, “Çanakkale Şehitlerine”, “Küfe”, “Fatih Camii”, and “Ezanlar” were recited in order. While the poems occasionally evoked emotional moments for the participants, they once again reminded them of Mehmet Âkif's world of ideas and social sensitivities.

The community members succeeded in conveying the national and spiritual values present in Mehmet Âkif Ersoy's verses to the audience with a strong interpretation, and they were applauded for a long time by the listeners.

At the end of the program, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Gürsoy thanked all the community members involved in the poetry recital, especially the President of the Theater Community, Gamze Atar, emphasizing that the event was of great importance in conveying Mehmet Âkif Ersoy's world of ideas and art to younger generations. Prof. Dr. Gürsoy presented certificates of appreciation to the students for their contributions.

The poetry recital ended with souvenir photos taken in memory of the day.
