A comprehensive energy efficiency transformation was initiated at Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) within the scope of the Public Buildings Energy Efficiency (KABEV) project carried out by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, with the financing of the World Bank and the support of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.

The KABEV project, implemented in many public buildings across Turkey, aims to reduce energy consumption, strengthen environmental sustainability, and make public institutions exemplary. MAKÜ became one of the pilot application points of this important project.

Energy-efficient buildings, sustainable campus

Within the scope of the project at MAKÜ, carport systems will first be installed in the parking lots of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Science and Letters, Faculty of Education, and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Thanks to these systems, electricity will be generated with solar panels in the parking areas, and energy savings will be achieved throughout the campus.

Additionally, roof insulation (rock wool application) will be carried out in the buildings of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and the Health, Culture and Sports Department. Thus, by preventing heat loss, the heating and cooling expenses of the buildings will be significantly reduced.

Efficiency will increase with LED lighting and cascade boiler systems

Within the framework of the project, all lighting systems in the buildings of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Hospital, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Science and Letters, Faculty of Education, Health, Culture and Sports Department, and Çavdır Vocational School will be converted to LED technology.

Additionally, the existing boiler rooms in these buildings will be renewed with cascade systems. These systems will optimize energy use according to need, providing both fuel savings and reducing carbon emissions.

At Çavdır Vocational School, facade insulation will be additionally carried out, thus strengthening thermal insulation and preventing energy losses.

Support for a green campus with a thousand saplings

In addition to energy efficiency applications, a thousand Taurus cedar saplings will be planted in the MAKÜ campus area with the support of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.

The saplings will be primarily placed around the campus pond, behind the pool, and in the dormitory area. This effort will strengthen the green texture of the campus while also contributing to the increase of carbon sink areas.

Green transformation initiative from MAKÜ

The MAKÜ administration plans to increase sustainability-focused investments throughout the campus with the KABEV project. The university aims not only to reduce energy costs with this project but also to set an example for students and society by creating an environmentally friendly campus model.

Thus, MAKÜ is becoming a pioneering university in Turkey among public institutions in terms of energy efficiency and environmental awareness.
