As part of the October 1st Elderly Day, a panel on "Aging" was organized by Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Faculty of Health Sciences.
The opening speech of the panel was made by the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Ayşe Gül Mutlu Gülmemiş. In her speech, Prof. Dr. Gülmemiş drew attention to Turkey's aging population and emphasized the important role of healthcare workers in this process. Prof. Dr. Gülmemiş stated the importance of social contributions considering Burdur's elderly population and expressed that the faculty has become stronger with its experienced academic staff and the Gerontology Department, which accepted students for the first time this year.
In the panel, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevinç Sütlü from the Gerontology Department made a presentation on "Aging from a Gerontological Perspective". Then, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Melda Soysal Tomruk from the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation presented "Physical Activity and Balance Rehabilitation in the Elderly", Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sercan Özbek Yazıcı from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics presented "Nutrition in the Elderly", Dr. Lecturer Gülhan Şen from the Department of Emergency Aid and Disaster Management presented "Disaster Gerontology: An Overview", and Research Assistant Dr. Kerime Öğüt Düzen from the Department of Nursing presented "Geriatric Nursing".
