Support for Waterless Agriculture from MAKU: Lavender Harvesting Done

The harvest of lavenders planted in a 350-decare area in the Istiklal Campus of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University was carried out in a project initiated to draw attention to waterless agriculture.

 

With the support of the Burdur Governorship, within the scope of the project initiated by Öztürk Sarıca, the founder of Lisinia Nature Project Center, to draw attention to waterless agriculture, the harvest of 350 decares of medicinal aromatic plants planted in the Istiklal Campus of Mehmet Akif Ersoy University was successfully completed.

 

At the lavender harvest attended by Burdur Governor Türker Öksüz and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Gürsoy, Project manager Öztürk Sarıca gave information about the harvest. Sarıca stated that within the framework of the projects initiated by Lisinia in 2005, they started planting and activities of medicinal aromatic plants in a 675-decare area with the cooperation of the public, university and Lisinia project, especially in waterless agriculture, protection of future generations' drinking water and studies related to Burdur Lake. Sarıca also said, "Our aim with these projects is to draw attention to the importance of waterless agriculture and increase the awareness of protecting our natural resources".

 

With the harvest of lavenders, it was emphasized that the project is an important step in terms of sustainable agriculture practices and creating environmental awareness.
