Erasmus+ support for MAKÜ's digitalization project in animal husbandry

The DigiTechFarm Project, prepared under the coordination of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ), aims to promote the use of digital technologies in livestock farming and has been granted support under Erasmus+.

The project “DigiTechFarm – Promoting the Use of Digital Technologies in Livestock Farming,” prepared by Prof. Dr. Özkan Elmaz from the Department of Animal Science at MAKÜ Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, will be carried out under Erasmus+ Vocational Education Cooperation Partnerships (KA220-VET).

DigiTechFarm, one of the 10 projects accepted by the Turkish National Agency under the 2026 Erasmus+ KA220-VET, will receive a grant of 120,000 euros. The project, which the university will coordinate, will last for two years with the number “2026-1-TR01-KA220-VET-000451419.”

Partners from Turkey, Greece, and Spain will participate

The Burdur Breeding Sheep-Goat Breeders Association will serve as the national partner in the project. The international partners will be the Hellenic Agricultural Organization – DIMITRA Veterinary Research Institute in Thessaloniki, Greece, and the Animal Production Department at the University of Cordoba in Spain.

The project aims to promote the use of digital technologies at the farm level in sheep and goat breeding, dairy and beef cattle farming, and calf rearing.

The aim is to provide solutions to the problems encountered in transferring digital tools, equipment, and technological applications developed in the livestock sector into daily production processes. In this regard, it is planned to convey information obtained from national and international scientific studies and existing standards to breeders.

It is aimed that veterinarians, engineers, agricultural engineers, and other technical personnel will play an active role in transferring knowledge and technologies to breeders.

Meetings and studies will be held in three countries

During the implementation process of the project, meetings and studies will be conducted in Turkey, Greece, and Spain. It is planned for veterinarians, engineers, agricultural engineers, and members of the Burdur Breeding Sheep-Goat Breeders Association to participate in the events.

Project Coordinator Prof. Dr. Özkan Elmaz stated that the aim is to deliver the knowledge and technologies developed in the field of digital transformation in animal husbandry more effectively to the breeders.

After the signing of the project contract, the first transnational project meeting and opening meeting, which will be attended by partners from three countries, is planned to be hosted by MAKÜ.
