Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) is signing an exemplary project on environmental sensitivity and energy saving. With the works initiated within the scope of the Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings (KABEV) project, it is aimed to both reduce energy consumption and create a sustainable campus life in the university campus.
Within the framework of the project, while energy efficiency enhancing applications are being implemented in university buildings, with the support of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, one thousand Taurus cedar saplings were planted in the campus area.
The sapling planting was particularly concentrated around the campus pond, behind the pool, and in the dormitory area. These areas were chosen for being social areas frequently used by students and for their suitable structures in terms of landscaping. The planted Taurus cedars will enrich the natural landscape of MAKÜ and will also make a significant contribution to the increase of carbon sink areas in the long term.
With these works carried out within the scope of the KABEV project, the MAKÜ administration aims not only to save energy but also to promote an environmentally sensitive university culture. With this transformation, the university aims to instill environmental awareness in its students, set an example for society, and make the concept of sustainability permanent in campus life.
University officials emphasize that “Each sapling will be a breath for the future” and state that such environmentally friendly projects will continue to increase in the coming period.
