"“Bırakmak için nedenim var!” event created awareness against tobacco addiction at MAKÜ"

Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) in collaboration with the Faculty of Theology organized an awareness event titled “I Have a Reason to Quit!” to draw attention to tobacco addiction.

On October 8, 2025, at the entrance gate of the Faculty of Theology, participants were informed about the harms of tobacco use. The carbon monoxide (CO) levels in the breaths of students and staff were measured with special devices to raise awareness. Participants also actively participated in the event by writing messages containing their personal motivations to quit smoking.

The event was organized under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevinç Sütlü, Deputy Coordinator of the Addiction Combat Coordination. Dr. Lecturer Ömer Dilmen, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Theology, and Dr. Lecturer Arife Ünal Süngü also supported the event as faculty members.

During the program, students were made aware of the individual and societal effects of tobacco addiction. Interactive activities implemented within the scope of the event aimed to provide motivation in the process of quitting smoking.
