Nevruz celebrations began with the opening speech of Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar. Dalgar, emphasizing the importance of Nevruz in Turkish culture in his speech, said, "We celebrate Nevruz, the harbinger of spring, with enthusiasm at our university every year. This event aims to remind our young people of the meaning of Nevruz Festival and to reflect the vitality brought by spring onto our campus. With the arrival of spring, we all feel the awakening of nature. Our campus is also becoming colorful, our students are spending more time, and we are very happy with this sight," he said.
Dalgar also recalled the difficulties experienced when students could not come to campus during the pandemic period, saying, "When our students are active and happy on campus, the university environment is also cheerful and enjoyable. These events are of great importance as the beginning of the spring term." he said.
After the speeches, the MAKÜ Folk Dance Team took the stage and performed traditional folk dances. Another interesting moment of the event was the performance of the traditional iron forging ritual. In the traditional ritual performed around the Nevruz fire, Rector Dalgar and participants jumped over the fire, experiencing the symbolic meaning of Nevruz.
The event ended with a halay dance joined by Rector Dalgar and students. On this meaningful day where they experienced the enthusiasm of spring together, the abundance and spirit of Nevruz resonated on the campus.
