Between February 25-28, more than 78 teams and over 400 athletes from 50 different universities are participating in the organization held at MAKÜ sports facilities.
At the opening ceremony held on the first day of the competitions, the Chief Referee of the organization, Said Yücel, wished success to all teams and emphasized the importance of fair and sportsmanlike competition.
Rector Dalgar: “We are one of the universities with the best sports infrastructure in Turkey”
In his opening speech, our Rector and also Vice President of the Turkish University Sports Federation, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar, stated that Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University is one of the universities with the best sports infrastructure in Turkey. Prof. Dr. Dalgar expressed that MAKÜ stands out as a sports center with both its facilities and accommodation capacity, and reminded that the university has hosted numerous organizations organized by the Turkish University Sports Federation.
Touching on the contribution of sports to academic and professional success, Rector Dalgar said that they encourage students to actively benefit from sports facilities and adopt sports as a lifestyle. Rector Dalgar, expressing their goals to be included in the 'Sports-Friendly Campus' project implemented by the Higher Education Council, emphasized that the support given to sports will continue to increase.
The Road to the European Championship
Rector Dalgar pointed out that this organization is a preliminary rehearsal for the European Championship to be hosted by MAKÜ in September. Stating that the successful team in the tournament will represent Turkey in the European Championship, Rector Dalgar expressed that the organization is not only a sporting event but also contributes to the promotion of Burdur.
The 78 teams and approximately 400 athletes participating in the competitions will have the opportunity to get to know Burdur closely with tours organized in the city while competing in MAKÜ's modern facilities.
Rector Dalgar wished the tournament to proceed in the spirit of friendship and competition, and wished success to the athletes.
