The Strategic Roadmap Search Workshop organized by the Turkish University Sports Federation was held at MAKÜ Lavanta Tepesi Hotel on January 24-26, 2025, hosted by our university. The workshop began with the opening speech of our Rector and Federation Board Member Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar.
“Sports, One of the Sectors with the Highest Growth Potential”
Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar emphasized the impact of digitalization, artificial intelligence, and technological developments on the business world in his speech, highlighting that during this process, people are turning more towards sports, art, culture, and socialization. He stated that sports is one of the strongest sectors supporting the socio-cultural development of individuals.
Dalgar drew attention to the opportunities offered by the university to increase student preferences for Burdur, expressing that MAKÜ has developed an innovative education model. He stated that with the university's new mobile application named “MAKÜ Plus,” they offer personalized education and career guidance to students. Additionally, he explained that with programs encouraging participation in social activities and providing micro-qualifications, they aim to make students more prepared for the business world after graduation.
“We Offer Turkey’s Best Sports Infrastructure with the Motto of 365 Days of Sports”
Rector Dalgar mentioned the positive effects of sports on individuals' psychological well-being and academic success, stating that MAKÜ offers sports activities throughout the year with the motto “365 Days of Sports.” Dalgar noted that the university has one of the best sports infrastructures in Turkey and aims to strengthen students' sports habits with this infrastructure. He also said that in the research conducted by the university, the contribution of sports to individuals' psychological and physical health has been scientifically proven.
The Federation's Goals Were Discussed
In the workshop, the current situation, goals of the Turkish University Sports Federation, and strategic plans for sports organizations of 208 universities in Turkey were discussed. Rector Dalgar stated that the federation should organize more effective, visible, and innovative sports organizations, emphasizing the need to focus on innovative approaches such as social media campaigns to encourage young people to engage in sports.
President of the Turkish University Sports Federation Prof. Dr. Mutlu Türkmen: “University Sports Will Be More Effective in the New Period”
President of the Turkish University Sports Federation Prof. Dr. Mutlu Türkmen stated that with the new management, they aim to develop university sports more effectively and widely.
Türkmen emphasized that the federation has undertaken significant projects since 1996 and that approximately 50,000 university students participate in competitions held in 60-70 branches each year. He expressed that in the new period, they aim to increase sports activities in universities in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Council of Higher Education.
Türkmen stated that within the scope of the "Sports-Friendly Campus" project launched last year, the performances of universities will be evaluated, and this study will be an important tool in increasing healthy living and physical activity habits in universities. He also added that the federation participates in projects like "Healthy Campus" within the scope of international cooperation and has taken responsibility for this area in Turkey.
Finally, Türkmen stated that they organized a broadly participatory search conference for strategic planning studies, and the federation will continue to increase infrastructure efforts to popularize competitive sports, contributing to the development of sports in all universities.
Türkmen concluded his speech by stating that Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) is one of the best in Turkey in terms of sports infrastructure.
Later, TÜSF Board Member Prof. Dr. Ayşe Türksoy Işım also made a presentation, sharing the SWOT analysis of the Turkish University Sports Federation for the 2025-2028 period. She conveyed the strategic themes highlighted in the analysis, which addressed strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
After the opening speeches, the sessions began. Under the title ‘Sports-Friendly Campus and Active Living,’ situation assessments, case studies, actual problems and needs, discussion of root causes of problems, good practice examples, solution proposals, policies, and strategies were discussed, and solution proposals were presented.
The program continued with a campus tour for the participants attending the workshop.
The workshop was successfully completed with the participation of academicians, athletes, and federation officials from different universities. The Turkish University Sports Federation aims to contribute to the development of university sports with the results from this workshop.
