Every year between December 20-27, various events are organized within the scope of the commemoration week of our National Poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy. December 20 is the birthday of Mehmet Akif Ersoy, and December 27 is the anniversary of his death.
A program titled ‘On the 151st Anniversary of His Birth, Mehmet Akif’ was held under the moderation of the Head of the Turkish Language and Literature Department, Prof. Dr. Kadriye Türkan, on the occasion of the 151st anniversary of the birth of the famous Turkish poet and thinker Mehmet Akif Ersoy, organized by the Turkish Language and Literature Department of our university's Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
In the program held at our university named after Mehmet Akif Ersoy, the life, literature, and profound legacy he contributed to the Turkish nation were once again brought to the agenda. The speeches were presented to the participants with contributions from expert academicians in the field. Prof. Dr. Parvana Bayram, in her presentation titled ‘Form and Content as Asım’, emphasized the deep meanings in terms of form and content of Asım, one of Mehmet Akif's most important works. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Himmet Büke, in his speech titled ‘Mehmet Akif and His Ideal’, elaborated on the poet's contributions to the national struggle, his world of ideas, and his approach to social issues in detail. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Canan Olpak Koç, in her presentation titled ‘A Staunch Stance: Mehmet Akif Ersoy’, emphasized the poet's strong character, stance, and moral aspects that set an example for the Turkish nation.
The event was watched with interest by students and academicians. The speakers in the program delved into the depths of Mehmet Akif Ersoy's world of thought, once again reminding his role in the Turkish nation's struggle for independence and his significant place in the history of literature.
At the end of the program, Certificates of Appreciation were presented to the moderator and speakers by our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Gürsoy and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Prof. Dr. Sevilay Özer.
