Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Social Work Department and Aging Studies Application and Research Center (YASAM) made a meaningful visit as part of the 101st anniversary celebrations of the Republic. Associate Professor Dr. Deniz Say Şahin, Associate Professor Dr. Gülsüm Korkut, Dr. Lecturer Merve Nur Oktar and YASAM volunteer students participated in the Republic Week event held at Burdur Hilmi-Hafize Evin Nursing Home Elderly Care and Rehabilitation Center.
At the event, nursing home residents and volunteer students came together to experience the enthusiasm of Republic Day together. In this meaningful gathering where different generations came together, our elderly shared their childhood memories, past Republic Day celebrations, and memories of the founding years of the Republic with the young people. These warm conversations led to emotional moments for both the elderly and the young.
In the event, colored by local artists' regional folk songs, the residents of the elderly care center had a pleasant time accompanied by music. MAKÜ's volunteer students closely interacted with the nursing home residents, providing them with a sincere day filled with the enthusiasm of the Republic. The volunteer young people expressed that they consider these interactions with elderly individuals as a social responsibility, and stated that such events where different age groups come together reinforce the feelings of solidarity and unity in society.
This event, specially organized for the 101st anniversary of the Republic by Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University and YASAM Center, contributed to strengthening social solidarity and allowing young people to be together with elderly individuals and benefit from their life experiences. This visit, which kept the enthusiasm of the Republic alive through intergenerational sharing, took its place in memories as an unforgettable moment for both the residents of the elderly care center and the young volunteers.
