The Faculty of Education Celebrated its 60th Anniversary with the Theme of "Being a Teacher in a Changing World"

Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Faculty of Education celebrated its 60th anniversary with a workshop themed "Being a Teacher in a Changing World". 

 

The aim of the workshop held in Avşar Han was emphasized as establishing a strong bond between faculty graduates and students and elevating the identity of the university.

 

Prof. Dr. Firdevs Savi Çakar, Dean of the Faculty of Education, who made the opening speech of the workshop, emphasized that the 60-year experience of the Faculty of Education and the culture of training teachers is a great power. Çakar, stating that the teaching profession requires constant renewal and being idealistic, also mentioned that the university has reached an important stage in quality processes and accreditation studies, and stated that the future of the teaching profession and changing competencies will be discussed at the workshop.

 

Then, Yücel Şimşek, a graduate of the Faculty of Education, stated that his daughter was one of the first graduates of the Faculty of Education, emphasizing the importance of dealing with the difficulties encountered in the changing world together.

 

Deputy Director of National Education Salim Oğuz, who stated that the workshop will yield positive results that will contribute to the education of our province, stated that the Faculty of Education is a rooted and important institution, and said that the results obtained from the workshop will be taken into consideration by the Directorate of National Education.

 

We Are Aware of the Responsibility of Shaping the Future of Education

 

Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar, stating that the university attaches special importance to the teaching profession like all professions, said that they are in search of preparing students in accordance with the needs of not today, but 10-20 years later, emphasizing how important this responsibility is for him. Rector Dalgar, stating that directing students in accordance with future developments is the primary responsibility of the university, said that this responsibility is so important that it will keep him and all academic staff awake.

 

We Shape the Future in Education with the Micro Competencies Program

 

Rector Dalar emphasized that changes in education are progressing rapidly and that teacher education has shown great differences over the years. He discussed the importance of discussing the differences between education in 1985 and education in the 2024-2025 period and reflecting these differences correctly to the new generation of teachers. Rector Dalar, emphasizing that they provide the opportunity for both current students and graduates to update their competencies with the "Micro Competencies Program" initiated by the university, also emphasized that students need to be equipped not only with basic professional knowledge, but also with competencies in different fields such as digital technologies, leadership, coaching. Rector Dalgar, who also mentioned the lifelong learning opportunities offered by the university to its graduates, stated that the Micro Competencies Program will be opened to graduates and that former graduates can receive support from the university to gain current competencies.

 

We Increased Quality with 5-Year Accreditation in International Rankings

 

Rector Dalar, sharing the successes achieved by MAKÜ in international rankings, emphasized that they managed to enter among the first 600-800 universities in the world university rankings in the category of education quality, and that they received the 5-year full accreditation certificate that only 22 of 208 universities in Turkey could get. He added that these successes were achieved thanks to the university's constant renewal and revision of its education processes in accordance with the universal requirements of the day. 

 

After the speeches, the workshop was passed. In the workshop sessions, attention was drawn to the role of artificial intelligence in education, critical roles undertaken by teachers in this change process were emphasized, and the necessity of constant renewal of the teaching profession was emphasized. At the workshop where ideas and experiences about the future education world were shared, a cake cutting was also held with all graduates from the oldest to the newest.
