The book reading event named ‘Üniversiteliler Okuyor’, organized by the MAKÜ Faculty of Education Project Community in collaboration with Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) and Isparta Süleyman Demirel University (SDÜ), was held with the intense participation of students.
The event was organized in the MAKÜ campus area and historical sites of Burdur. Aiming to encourage reading, the event featured colorful scenes where academics and students came together. It also stood out as a meaningful project emphasizing the cooperation and cultural sharing between the two universities.
Providing information about the event, MAKÜ Faculty of Education faculty member Prof. Dr. Kenan Demir described the project with these words: “Our project is an event aimed at drawing attention to reading and creating reading awareness. We organize such events in different ways every year. Previously, we conducted a similar activity at an event held in Cumhuriyet Square. This time, we decided to bring together our academic friends from SDÜ and have the two universities sign a joint project.”
Prof. Dr. Demir, noting that a similar concept was applied at the event held at SDÜ last week, said, “We read books on the Isparta campus, then toured the city center. This week, we are doing a similar event in Burdur. We want to introduce the historical texture of our cities to the students and instill the pleasure of reading books in this texture. Additionally, one of our main goals is to ensure cohesion among our students.”
They stated that during the event, students actively participated and prepared bookmarks with their own handiwork. These bookmarks sometimes featured aphorisms and sometimes meaningful quotes from books. During the event, students experienced the joy of reading and sharing by gifting these bookmarks to people in the city.
The event provided an opportunity for the development of cultural and social bonds among students while offering participants a unique experience of reading books in historical sites. It is aimed that this meaningful collaboration between MAKÜ and SDÜ will continue in the coming years and be enriched with different projects.
