A meeting was held at Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University within the framework of the 'Sports-Friendly Campus Project'.
On May 13, 2024, announced by the President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar; work has begun at MAKÜ for the 'Sports-Friendly Campus' project carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. For this purpose, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of MAKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar.
At the meeting, the goals and strategies within the scope of the 'Sports-Friendly Campus' vision were discussed in detail. Rector Dalgar said, “With this project, it is aimed to evaluate our students' extracurricular time, to protect the physical and mental health of our youth and support their balanced development processes, to encourage everyone living on our campuses, especially our youth, to engage in sports and physical activities, to make regular sports a lifestyle philosophy, to develop sports facilities and activities on campuses, to increase collaborations with stakeholders in sports activities, and to expand student communities and clubs to increase their sports activities.”
Preparations Accelerated for the 'Sports-Friendly Campus Flag'
At the meeting, the activities carried out and planned for MAKÜ to win the 'Sports-Friendly Campus Flag', which will be awarded to successful universities in 2025 after the evaluation by YÖK, were discussed. While the events held in 2024 were evaluated, the projects and activities planned to be implemented by the end of the year were also detailed.
Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar, in his speech at the meeting, said, “As MAKÜ, we believe in the importance of sports in individual and social life. This project shows how ambitious our university is not only in the academic field but also in the vision of raising a healthy and conscious society. We will do our best to receive the Sports-Friendly Campus Flag.”
Various Events Organized for a Healthy and Active Campus
In line with the Sports-Friendly Campus vision, MAKÜ organized many events throughout the year. These events included running organizations, sports club activities, tournaments open to student and staff participation, efforts to promote bicycle use, and activities aimed at increasing sports awareness.
Additionally, goals such as making sports facilities more accessible, increasing outdoor sports areas on campus, and creating social areas that support healthy living were among the topics discussed at the meeting.
The meeting was attended by the university administration, field expert academicians working at MAKÜ, and department heads.
