Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKU) in Burdur continues to produce Tulum cheese from goat milk this season, which it started last season. The Milk Processing Unit of the Milk Products and Technology Application and Research Center (UAM) of MAKU started to produce its products from goat milk in cooperation with goat breeders in the districts and villages of Burdur.
MAKU, which purchases milk from local producers for dairy products produced in the business facility established within its own body, obtains the milk to be used in the production of goat Tulum cheese from goat breeders in Çavdır, Gölhisar and Karamanlı districts. This cooperation both provides economic support to local producers and makes the production of quality dairy products possible.
Quality and Hygiene Standards are Forefront
Aslı Albayrak Karaoğlu, Production Manager of MAKU Dairy Products and Technology UAM Milk Processing Unit, gave information about the production they made in their facilities. Karaoğlu, who stated that the products they produced from goat milk last season were in great demand, emphasized that they attach great importance to quality and hygiene standards in the production process. Karaoğlu, who stated that they use the highest quality goat milk in Goat Tulum cheese, said: “In addition to our Goat Tulum cheese, we produce mixed white cheese, goat cheese, goat cream and mixed cream from goat-cow. As of today, the cream and cheeses we started to produce will be put on sale immediately. We leave the Tulum cheeses for maturation for 120 days and after 120 days, they will be on sale again at our MAKU Store at the entrance of our university and at our MAKU Gourmet Store in the center.”
Production Diversity and Contribution to Local Economy
MAKU Milk Processing Facility not only produces goat tulum cheese, but also various products from goat and cow milk. Products such as mixed tulum cheese, goat cheese, goat cream and mixed cream from goat-cow are also included in the production line. These products are put on sale immediately after production, while Tulum cheeses are subjected to a controlled maturation process for 120 days in goat skins.
This initiative of MAKU also makes a significant contribution to the local economy. The milk obtained from local producers both generates income for the producers and helps to evaluate the agricultural and livestock potential of the region.
MAKU Products on Sale
All products produced from goat milk by MAKU are on sale at the MAKU Store located next to the entrance gate of the university and at the MAKU Gourmet Store in the Center. Especially the Goat Tulum cheeses matured in a controlled manner will take their place on the shelves after the 120-day period is completed.
