The Tourism Management and Gastronomy and Culinary Arts departments within the faculty have been granted full accreditation for 6 years by the Tourism Education Evaluation and Accreditation Board (TURAK), authorized by the Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK), as of December 31, 2025. With this full accreditation, MAKÜ Tourism Faculty has become one of the few fully accredited tourism faculties.
MAKÜ Tourism Faculty, which started its educational activities in 2013, stands out among the prominent faculties of tourism education at the undergraduate level in Turkey with its strong academic staff, foreign language-focused education structure, and practice-based teaching model. The actively teaching Tourism Management and Gastronomy and Culinary Arts departments prepare their students directly for the sector with a 6+2 applied education model. Within this model, students receive theoretical education for the first three years and participate in the 'Professional Training in Business' practice in tourism enterprises for two semesters in the final year. Additionally, mandatory summer internships and applied courses conducted from the first year reinforce students' professional skills.
Special importance is also given to foreign language education in the faculty. In addition to English, second and third foreign languages such as German and Russian aim to increase students' competitiveness in the international tourism sector.
MAKÜ offers sector experience to its students in application areas
The Faculty, which has strong facilities in terms of applied education infrastructure, offers real sector experience to its students with application areas such as the five-star Lavanta Tepesi Hotel, Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Application Kitchen, Kitap & Kahve Cafeteria, and Taş Oda Gastronomy Kitchen located in the city center of Burdur. In these areas, students can both carry out course applications and benefit from part-time work and employment opportunities.
In addition to academic education, the Faculty, which also contributes to students' career development, organizes School-Sector Meetings, sector talks, panels, and one-on-one meetings. Sector representatives from important tourism destinations in Turkey, especially Antalya and Bodrum, have the opportunity to establish direct contact with students. Additionally, collaborations with the Professional Hotel Managers Association (POYD) support students' transition to the sector.
The achievement of full accreditation has demonstrated that the educational activities carried out in the Faculty are in line with national quality standards in terms of academic staff competence, current curriculum structure, student-centered approach, and collaborations established with stakeholders. With the full accreditation of both departments, MAKÜ Tourism Faculty has become one of the few tourism faculties in Turkey to achieve this success.
MAKÜ Tourism Faculty is one of the few fully accredited tourism faculties
In an evaluation regarding the subject, MAKÜ Tourism Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Murat Yeşilştaş said:
“The full accreditation of our Tourism Management and Gastronomy and Culinary Arts departments by TURAK is a clear indicator of the quality of education provided in our Faculty. With this success, our Faculty has become one of the few tourism faculties with all its departments fully accredited. I thank all our academic and administrative staff who contributed to the process with dedication.”
